Rhodium is one of the six platinum group metals, and although it cannot be
used in fabricated or bulk form, it can be electrolytically deposited in relatively thin coatings.
Rhodium forms a very hard, (approximately 800-850 VPN), very bright,
corrosion resistant coating, that is unaffected by most acids and sulphur and is used to;
- To prevent tarnishing of silverware
- To produce reflectors that
do not dull with time
- For wear and corrosion resistant
electrical contacts
- As an abrasion-resistant coating
on precision capstans
Rhodium requires an undercoat of either silver or nickel due to the
composition of the plating solution. |
